Artichokes

Buttered artichokes for supper  

Soon to fill our empty tummies  

Then afterward, a nice hot cuppa  

  

The cool of evening makes me shudder  

It’s nearly time for tea  

And buttered artichokes for supper  

  

From the oven, bread with butter  

As the fire burns so toasty  

 And afterward, a nice hot cuppa  

  

After this long day of labour  

We come home sleepily  

To have buttered artichokes for supper  

  

Scones, custard, rhubarb frittata  

All served generously  

And afterward, a nice hot cuppa  

  

Birds, bees, dragonflies, shall flutter  

During this outdoor tea party
