BLURRED LINES

2023

Artist Statement

Blurred Lines represents the merging of spatial identity, through the live subject matter of a graffitied person becoming synonymous with the space around her. Through the use of photography, I seek to capture the spontaneity of a frivolous moment and mood of playfulness which is often thought of concerning the Fitzroy graffiti scene. Graffiti being a form of self-expression, often used by those without access to expensive materials, remains reminiscent of the historic socioeconomic background of the area. As the subject embraces the fleeting moment of running through Fitzroy before the paint melts off her face, she becomes like the graffiti, unstable and replaceable. Blurred lines seeks to display how we as humans assimilate within the spaces we are placed within and how place becomes an important shaping of our own identification.

I would like to thank my model, Katarina Kunesevic, for her hard work, willingness and contribution to this piece.
